Optical Tap
Optical Taps
ImageStream's optical tap is used
in passive monitoring applications with single mode
or multimode fiber optic connections from SONET/SDH
or ethernet networks. The optical tap acts as an optical
splitter, directing a percentage of each photonic signal
to the corresponding pass-through output, and directing
the remaining portion of the signal to the monitor card.
As a passive monitoring device, the optical tap does
not interrupt normal data flow when the monitor card
is disconnected from the tap.
The optical tap provides two duplex SC connectors that
are used to connect to both sides of a split fiber optic
line, and pass through the bi-directional data traffic
to each side. The tap also provides a duplex SC connector
for output of both data signals to the monitoring card.
The optical tap is available in single mode and multimode
versions. In addition, these versions are available
with different signal splitting ratios of line-to-monitor
output. The available line-to-monitor output ratios
include 50:50, 70:30, and 80:20. These optical taps
are also available in stand-alone and rackmount versions.
