Passive E3 Tap
DS3 and E3 Taps
ImageStream offers both DS3 and E3
data circuit taps for passive monitoring applications.
As passive monitoring devices, the DS3 and E3 taps do
not interrupt the data circuit when the monitor card
is disconnected from the tap.
The DS3 and E3 taps each provide four 75 ohm coaxial
BNC connectors that are used to connect the line and
pass through the full duplex data traffic. The tap also
provides a DB15 interface for connecting the tap cable
to the monitoring card.
The DS3 and E3 taps present a high-impedance interface
to each of the two data circuit signals. The tap acts
as a repeater that retransmits each input signal back
out through the tap's output connection. The tap can
drive this output signal across coaxial cabling over
distances of up to 450 feet (137 meters).
The tap cable carries data signals from the tap's DB15
connector to the monitor card, and it carries power
from the monitor card to the tap. The length of the
tap cable must be 15 feet (4.5 meters) or less.
