The PCI 921-CDS is a low-cost channelized DS3 WAN adapter that can be used in ImageStream's Industrial Series routers or OEM products running Linux. The PCI 921-CDS can individually address all of the DS0s and T1s in a DS3, and it can be used in a wide range of applications including WAN and Internet routing, Voice-over-IP (VoIP), medical imaging, and digital video on demand.
The PCI 921-CDS is a PCI 2.1 compliant WAN card with a 32/64-bit 33/66 MHz PCI bus interface that supports 3.3 or 5-volt signaling. The adapter provides one physical DS3 interface with logical T1 and DS3 interfaces running at full or fractional speeds. The card supports full duplex line rate throughput of 45 Mbps, and DSO addressability with 672 HDLC channels. The card also provides an M13 multiplexer with T1 framers that can be used to individually address each of the 28 T1s in a DS3.
The PCI 921-CDS utilizes the Mindspeed CX28500 chipset to provide support for the card's host PCI bus interface, which can burst data at speeds up to 780 Mbps, or 390 Mbps full duplex. The CX28500 also provides the card's DMA controller, HDLC controllers, and management interface. The CX28500 is connected to the PMC-Sierra PM8315, which provides the card's T1 framers and M13 multiplexer. The PM8315 is also connected to the Exar XRT73L00 T3 LIU, which supports the physical DS3 line interface to the card.
