The PCI 1000 series
consists of WAN adapters that can be used in Industrial
Series routers or OEM products running Linux. The
1000 series includes high-performance ATM adapters
with one DS3/E3/J2, OC3, or OC12 interface.
1000 series cards comply with ATM Forum
specification UNI 3.1 and TM 4.0. The adapters are
based on advanced ATM segmentation and reassembly
controllers (SARs) that are designed to optimize PCI
bus utilization for increased performance with small
packets. 1000 series adapters segment and reassemble
AAL0, AAL3/4 and AAL5, and the cards manage and transmit
raw cells, AAL1 and AAL2.
The PCI 1001-DE is a 32-bit 33 MHz PCI
adapter that provides a full duplex software configurable
interface for 45 Mb ATM DS3, 34 Mb ATM E3, and 6 Mb
ATM J2 connections. The card uses the Conexant CN8236
SAR and the PMC-Sierra PM7347 PHY which are connected
via a Utopia Level 2 bus. The PHY supports Physical
Layer Convergence Protocol (PLCP) which is compatible
with DS3 transmission systems according to the ATM
Forum UNI specification, ANSI TA-TSY-000773, and ANSI
TA-TSY-000772, and with E3 transmission systems according
to ETSI 300-269 and ETSI 300-270. The PHY also supports
direct cell mapping into DS3, E3, and J2 systems based
on ITU-T G.804. The DS3/E3/J2 physical interface features
G.703 compliant dual BNC connectors.
The PCI 1001-O3M and PCI 1001-O3S are
32-bit 33 MHz PCI adapters that provide a full duplex
155 Mbps ATM OC3 port. The cards employ the Conexant
CN8236 SAR and the Conexant CX28250 PHY which are
connected by a Utopia Level 2 bus. In the half duplex
mode, the cards support burst rates up to 200 Mbps.
The front end supports SONET STS-3c or SDH STM-1 with
built-in performance and alarm monitoring. Physical
interface is provided by SC connectors with options
for single mode or multimode fiber optics.
The PCI 1001-O12S is a 32/64-bit 33/66
MHz ATM adapter that provides a full duplex 622 Mbps
ATM OC12 port. The card employs the Conexant CN8237
SAR and the PMC-Sierra PM5356 PHY which are connected
together via a Utopia Level 2 bus. The PHY supports
SONET STS-12c or SDH STM-4, and the physical interface
provides an SC connector that supports single mode
fiber optics.
The traffic management co-processor
in each SAR supports Constant Bit Rate (CBR), Variable
Bit Rate (VBR), Unspecified Bit Rate (UBR), Available
Bit Rate (ABR), Guaranteed Frame Rate (GFR) and Generic
Flow Control (GFC). In order to maximize line utilization,
the xBR traffic management block automatically schedules
each virtual channel connection (VCC) according to
user assigned parameters.
