ImageStream Internet Solution - Industrial Series Network Card - PCI 720

PCI 720 Series

PCI 720 series adapters are enhanced versions of ImageStream's low-cost PCI 800 series adapters. The 720 series provides an accelerated hardware architecture that supports wire-speed performance with packets as small as 64 bytes. 720 series cards are available in single or dual port HSSI, DS3 and E3 versions. The DS3 and E3 cards provide full-speed CSU/DSUs that support full-speed circuits. The 720 series adapters make ideal candidates for processor intensive telecommunications platforms and bandwidth intensive multimedia applications.

The PCI 720 series uses a 32-bit 33 MHz PCI bus mastering controller that provides a burst rate of 132 MB per second. The main components of the 720 series are the Intel i960HD66 RISC processor, the PCI controller, and two DXI HDLC controllers. The i960 processor manages packet flow between the DXI controller, packet RAM and host RAM. The i960 can act as a direct PCI bus master with direct access to host RAM, or it can initiate DMA transfers between packet RAM and host buffers via the PCI controller. The VLSI DXI controller module supports both HDLC and transparent modes of operation at speeds up to 52 Mbps. Dual 8/16KB FIFOs are connected directly to the DXI HDLC controller for both transmit and receive queues to minimize packet transfer latencies.
