Malaysia Business Times - Telogic unit
wins Iraqi deal
Telogic,
Mar 10, 2005 -- TELOGIC Malaysia Sdn
Bhd, a sales unit of Singapore-based Telogic
Pte Ltd, has clinched a deal to supply telecommunications
equipment to Iraq, a major breakthrough for
the company in efforts to expand into West
Asia.
Telogic Technology, the research
and development arm of the group, will supply
the SS7 signalling gateway to Asiacell under
the RM3 million deal, with delivery expected
to be completed by next month.
With this project in hand, Telogic
Malaysia country manager Lim Thian Pin said
it has successfully penetrated a market which
most Malaysian companies are still sceptical
or fearful to venture into.
“I believe this deal will
give Telogic a very good headstart and set
our foot into Iraq and the rest of the region.
“As the telecommunications
industry is still in its infancy in Iraq,
this should provide us with the advantage
in tapping into the growth potential of this
emerging market,” he told Business Times.
Lim said the product to be supplied
to Asiacell is fully developed by Telogic
Technology and demonstrates that a home-grown
technology and solution company can gain acceptance
in the international marketplace.
“We believe this is also
due to our proven track record,” he
said, adding that Telogic had completed more
than 20 major projects with regional operators
in Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam,
Cambodia and Malaysia itself.
“Currently, we are bidding
for various projects worth more than RM15
million within the region,” he said.
In its quest to become a global
telecommunications solution provider, the
Multimedia Super Corridor-status company plans
to list on the Malaysian Exchange of Securities
Dealing and Automated Quotation Bhd (Mesdaq)
Market by the first quarter of next year.
“The fund-raising exercise
in Mesdaq will help us to achieve our global
aim. Our immediate intention will be to set
up operations in the US and also West Asia,
with India and Australia to follow,”
Lim said.
The Telogic group is a leading
telecoms solution provider headquartered in
Singapore.
It has regional offices in Indonesia,
Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines as
well as a network of partners in Asia Pacific.
