The Gateway 64 is an enhanced version of the Gateway Router, ImageStream's
most popular core router. The Gateway 64 uses the same chassis as the standard
Gateway, which supports options for AC or DC power, as well as redundant AC or
DC power. The Gateway 64 performance enhancements include a dual bus backplane,
a dual bus single board computer (SBC), and 256 MB of memory. The Gateway
64 backplane and SBC can deliver up to 9 Gbps of aggregate bus bandwidth. The
dual bus SBC features a fast Pentium 4 processor with high-performance DDR memory.
The dual bus backplane provides a 1 Gbps 32-bit 33 MHz PCI bus just like the standard
Gateway, and an 8 Gbps 64-bit PCI-X bus like those found in the Enterprise Router. The
Gateway 64 includes an easy-to-service 19-inch 4U rackmount chassis, industrial
SBC, high-speed error-correcting memory, dual 10/100 ethernet ports, and 10 expansion
slots (four 32-bit and six 64-bit). Like all Industrial Series routers, the Gateway
64 uses flash storage with no moving parts to maximize reliability. The
Gateway 64 is an excellent solution for IP routing applications that demand wire-speed
performance. Each 32-bit PCI slot accepts LAN and WAN adapters including all Industrial
Series network cards. The 64-bit slots accept 32 and 64-bit cards that provide
3.3-volt or universal signaling. With the currently available network adapters,
the Gateway 64 can interconnect IP networks using multiple 56/64 K DDS, fractional
and full T1/E1, fractional and full DS3/E3, OC3/STM1, token ring, ethernet, 802.11a/b/g
wireless, ADSL, basic rate ISDN (BRI), and 56 K dial-up connections. The
Gateway 64 takes advantage of ImageStreams Standard Architecture for Network
Drivers (SAND), which includes modular support for WAN protocols including
PPP, Cisco HDLC, frame relay and ATM. SAND also makes it easy to troubleshoot
LAN and WAN connections by providing real-time port status and performance monitoring. The
Gateway 64 is an excellent low-cost solution for routing applications that require
more than 1 gigabit of bus bandwidth. It is a popular solution for midrange router
applications that require wire-speed performance and superior reliability in an
easy-to-service package. The Gateway 64 works where most Cisco 3700, 7200 and
7500 series routers are used, and it includes support for firewall security, quality
of service (QoS), and IPsec virtual private network (VPN) applications. The
Gateway 64 can be used in a wide range of applications from the core to the edge.
It is commonly used by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for multihomed networks
that require dynamic routing in conjunction with high-density T1/E1, multiport
DS3/E3, and OC3/STM1 connections. The Gateway 64 is ideal for midrange ISP applications
and corporate networks where a high level of scalability, redundancy, and security
is required. The Gateway Router can be used in a wide range of applications
